S&P Dow Jones Indices and Kaiko completed the first onchain over-the-counter derivatives swap referencing a tokenized benchmark, executed by trading firms DRW and Marex on the Canton blockchain, according to an announcement from S&P Global on October 13.
The settlement used a tokenized version of the iBoxx credit index, a fixed-income benchmark published by S&P Global that tracks investment-grade and high-yield corporate debt. The swap was executed on Derivnex, a decentralized derivatives platform built on the Canton blockchain, which is a permissioned network operated by Digital Asset. The transaction marks a first-time integration of a major financial benchmarking system into an onchain settlement layer.
S&P Global publishes indices used by institutional investors to track and hedge bond portfolios. The iBoxx family includes over 200 indices tracking various credit segments and geographies. Tokenizing the index itself, rather than only the underlying bonds, allows derivatives referencing that benchmark to settle directly onchain rather than through traditional clearinghouses. Kaiko, a cryptographic data firm, provided index calculation and verification for the onchain transaction.
DRW and Marex are high-volume electronic trading operations. DRW is a Chicago-based proprietary trading firm with units across equities, fixed income, and digital assets. Marex is a London-based brokerage and execution platform. Both firms have expanded into blockchain and digital asset trading over the past two years.

Canton is designed for regulated financial institutions to settle transactions onchain with privacy controls. Operators running Canton nodes can set granular permissions around who sees transaction details and who can execute specific contract types. Digital Asset positions Canton as an alternative to public blockchains for institutional derivatives settlement, where counterparties need settlement finality without public visibility of trade details.
The transaction represents an operational test of onchain settlement infrastructure for institutional OTC derivatives linked to traditional finance benchmarks. Until now, most tokenized-index projects have launched on public chains like Ethereum, where settlement is transparent but custody and regulatory reporting occur offchain. An onchain settlement with a permissioned network adds a layer of institutional controls that traditional market participants expect.
DRW and Marex executed this swap on a live system rather than in a sandbox, confirming both that tokenized index swaps can clear onchain and that two major trading operations are willing to commit real capital to test the infrastructure. The specific notional size and settlement lag of the transaction have not been disclosed by the parties.
