MoonPay has integrated a non-custodial crypto wallet called PayBox directly into Claude and ChatGPT, allowing users to execute payments without leaving the chatbot interface. The integration, announced on July 29, lets users initiate cryptocurrency transactions through natural language prompts within the two most widely deployed AI assistants.
PayBox operates as a payment vault that sits within each chatbot's conversation window. Users can trigger transfers by describing what they want to pay for in text, and the system executes the transaction. The wallet is non-custodial, meaning MoonPay does not hold user private keys.
MoonPay has positioned the product as a bridge between conversational AI and blockchain infrastructure. The company, which operates a fiat-to-crypto on-ramp serving 8 million users monthly as of early 2024, has been integrating payment functionality into third-party applications for several years. Embedding a wallet directly into Claude and ChatGPT extends that strategy into the largest consumer AI interface surfaces available. Anthropic's Claude and OpenAI's ChatGPT together account for billions of monthly active users.
The announcement does not specify transaction fees or the blockchains PayBox will initially support. MoonPay said the wallet supports "mainstream cryptocurrencies," but declined to name which ones at launch. The company stated that users will be able to load funds into PayBox using existing on-ramps and manage private keys through the chatbot interface.
MoonPay did not announce integrations with other AI assistants at launch. Google's Gemini, Grok, and open-source models running on personal infrastructure were not included in the initial rollout. The company said it plans to expand PayBox availability but provided no timeline.
