Injective activated mainnet upgrade IIP-677 on July 29, bringing the blockchain to version 1.20.3 with new cross-chain interoperability capabilities. The upgrade passed governance with 72% approval and is live, according to the network's announcement.

The release widens what Injective can connect to by adding new integrations and chain connections, though specific details on which networks or protocols are newly accessible were not immediately detailed. The upgrade closes a ten-day period that included three major milestones for the chain: Coinbase's migration of its native injective-protocol token onto the Injective network, the launch of Injective Mint for issuing SEC-compliant tokenized equities and bonds, and an SEC transfer agent filing by Injective Labs.

Injective Labs also published a MiCA compliance whitepaper during the same window. MiCA, the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, takes effect in phases and covers token issuance, custody and trading across the EU.

The v1.20.3 release is the network's largest infrastructure push of the year. Injective has positioned itself as a chain for institutional-grade derivatives and tokenized assets, competing with Ethereum and Solana for exchange and issuance workloads.

No new token launch or market opening was confirmed live at the time of upgrade. The network said new integrations, launches and markets will follow in the days ahead, without specifying a timeline.

The 72% approval on IIP-677 represents standard governance consensus for Injective and carries the same weight as prior major network decisions. Three regulatory and product milestones completed alongside the upgrade within a compressed window.

The next metric to watch is whether Injective publishes technical documentation naming which major chains or dApps are newly connected, or whether the promised markets and integrations launch within 14 days of July 29.
