Bitcoin spot ETFs recorded net outflows of $236.46 million on September 1, while ethereum, solana and XRP spot ETFs each posted inflows, according to flow data tracked across multiple sources.

The split in directional flows appeared across institutional positioning among crypto asset classes. Bitcoin's outflow came as ethereum inflows reached $10.95 million, solana inflows hit $10.19 million, and XRP inflows totaled $14.38 million over the same trading session.

Bitcoin spot ETF inflows have driven much of the institutional adoption narrative since the first U.S. spot bitcoin ETF launched in January 2024. The $236.46 million outflow represents a reversal of that trend on a single trading day, though month-to-date and year-to-date inflow figures remain positive across the major bitcoin ETFs traded in the United States.

Ethereum spot ETFs, which began trading in July 2024, have accumulated roughly $4 billion in net inflows since inception. The $10.95 million inflow on September 1 aligns with periodic volatility in daily flows rather than a structural shift in ethereum positioning, based on typical trading patterns across the ethereum ETF complex.

Solana and XRP, both newer entrants to the U.S. spot ETF marketplace, have seen smaller absolute flows compared to bitcoin and ethereum. Bitcoin posted an outflow on the same trading day that three altcoin ETFs each posted inflows, though single-day flow data carries limited predictive weight for longer-term positioning.

Daily ETF flows remain subject to normal market volatility, profit-taking, and rebalancing activity among funds tracking these assets. A single day of bitcoin outflows does not alter the structural demand picture that has driven cumulative inflows since spot ETF approvals began in 2024.

The measure that decides whether this marks sustained rotation is bitcoin ETF flows over the next two weeks. If bitcoin spot ETFs do not return to net inflows by mid-September, it would mark the first sustained weekly outflow period since the asset class achieved regulatory approval.
