xAI has launched Grok Bot in early beta, limiting initial access to subscribers of SuperGrok Heavy, Cursor Ultra, and Cursor Teams Premium, according to the announcement.
Grok Bot is an AI agent designed to operate as an always-on teammate with its own cloud compute resources. The bot automates tasks directly within a user's workflow rather than requiring manual prompts for each action. The three eligible subscription tiers represent xAI's highest-cost offerings, restricting the rollout to the company's most committed paying users.
xAI has positioned Grok Bot as an extension of its Grok large language model, which competes with OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude in the consumer and professional AI market. OpenAI's Canvas and Anthropic's extended thinking mode offer similar autonomous capabilities that execute multi-step operations without continuous human direction.
The early beta phase typically precedes broader rollout. xAI has not announced a timeline for expanding Grok Bot access beyond the current three subscription tiers, nor has the company disclosed performance metrics or user adoption targets for the product.
xAI was founded in 2023 by Elon Musk and is backed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and other institutional investors. The company operates independently from Tesla and Musk's other ventures, though Musk remains its primary stakeholder and public face.
