Venus Protocol has partnered with Ceffu Global to offer institutional investors access to DeFi lending without moving Bitcoin from regulated custody. The first vault, launched on BNB Chain, had filled to 850.61K USDT of its 1M USDT cap as of late July, offering a 4.2% target APR on one-month fixed-term USDT deposits backed by Bitcoin held in Ceffu's custody.
The structure bypasses a longstanding friction in institutional crypto adoption: the requirement to transfer assets into a protocol's smart contracts to earn yield. Ceffu, a regulated digital asset custodian, holds the underlying Bitcoin collateral off-chain while Venus borrows against it on-chain, allowing depositors to earn returns without self-custody exposure or asset movement into DeFi. Supply closes August 31.
Venus operates as a lending protocol on BNB Chain with approximately 1.024 billion dollars in total value locked as of late July. The platform has historically focused on retail users and smaller capital pools. The Ceffu partnership marks an explicit institutional play, bundling custody assurance with yield generation in a single product.
Institutional appetite for DeFi yield has grown as traditional finance yields compressed and custody infrastructure matured. Major custodians and stablecoin issuers have begun offering on-chain integration features in recent years. Ceffu's model differs by keeping assets off-chain while Venus supplies the borrowing layer, creating a hybrid accessible to allocators unable to deploy directly into smart contracts for compliance or risk reasons.

The vault filled to 85% capacity in its opening window, leaving approximately 149K USDT available before closure. Venus did not announce terms for vault reopening or capacity expansion once the current round concludes.
The vault filled to 85% of capacity within its opening window. Venus TVL on BNB Chain remained concentrated in core lending pairs. A repeated or scaled institutional custody program would materially shift the protocol's capital composition toward larger, longer-duration deposits.
The number to watch is whether Venus and Ceffu open a second vault before September, and if so, whether it fills at a comparable rate.
