South Korea's largest crypto exchange Upbit will list LIT, an Ethereum-based utility token for the Lighter perpetuals protocol, for Korean won trading on August 24 at 13:00 local time, according to an official announcement.

LIT serves as the governance and incentive token for Lighter, a decentralized exchange built on Ethereum that specializes in perpetual futures trading. The token operates as a standard ERC-20 asset on the Ethereum network. Upbit's decision to add a KRW trading pair expands access to the token in one of Asia's largest cryptocurrency markets, where South Korea's regulatory clarity and high retail adoption have made won-denominated pairs a key onramp for domestic traders.

Upbit processed over 41 trillion won in daily trading volume as of mid-August 2026, making it the dominant exchange operator in the country by both volume and user base. The exchange has listed approximately 250 trading pairs across multiple fiat currencies, with KRW pairs forming the core of its liquidity pool. Each new fiat listing on Upbit typically drives material volume for the underlying asset during the first 72 hours of trading.

Lighter itself launched in 2024 as a protocol for on-chain perpetual derivatives, competing with centralized futures platforms by offering self-custody and smart contract transparency. The protocol has attracted developer activity across multiple Ethereum layers and scaling solutions. LIT token holders participate in fee distribution mechanisms and governance votes on protocol parameters.

The listing marks one of few times Upbit has added a perpetuals-focused protocol token to its won-trading menu, a category historically reserved for larger layer-one and layer-two assets. Upbit's selection criteria for new listings emphasize regulatory compliance, liquidity depth, and developer community maturity. The exchange operates under South Korea's Digital Asset Business Act and maintains capital reserves and custody standards mandated by the Financial Services Commission.

Upbit announced the listing August 21 in advance of the go-live date, allowing users to deposit LIT holdings before trading commences. The August 24 timestamp aligns with the exchange's standard Tuesday listing schedule, when institutional trading desks in Seoul typically allocate fresh capital to new pairs. If Upbit does not execute the listing at the announced time and date, it would represent an unusual deviation from the exchange's historical on-time performance for scheduled pair launches.
