President Donald Trump declared a "Golden Age of Space Transportation" and set a target of more than 1,000 US space launches and reentries annually by 2030, according to a White House fact sheet dated August 20. The administration is pursuing the goal through executive action aimed at regulatory change and infrastructure expansion.

The 1,000-launch target represents a roughly 5.6-fold increase from the 178 launches and reentries the US completed in fiscal year 2025. No administration has previously announced a comparable numerical target for domestic launch volume. The figure encompasses both orbital and suborbital flights conducted from US territory.

The fact sheet does not specify which agencies, contractors or private operators would execute the launches, nor does it detail the regulatory changes needed to reach the target. SpaceX, the dominant US launch provider, conducted 61 orbital launches in 2025 alone, but the company has not publicly committed to a deployment schedule aligned with the 1,000-annual-launch goal.

The announcement arrives as the commercial space sector has accelerated. Blue Origin, Relativity Space, Axiom Space and other private firms are building or expanding launch and spaceport infrastructure. The Federal Aviation Administration, which licenses commercial launches, has faced criticism from industry for processing delays that operators say constrain flight rates.

Trump's 2017-2021 administration pursued space expansion through the creation of the Space Force and the Artemis program. The current declaration does not clarify whether the 1,000-launch target includes government missions, commercial cargo and crewed flights, or only private-sector launches. The White House did not immediately respond to requests for detail on the breakdown.

The current US launch rate of 178 flights annually is roughly double the 2020 rate. A move to 1,000 launches per year would require not only regulatory approval but significant expansion of launch pad capacity, ground infrastructure, and the skilled workforce needed to assemble and operate rockets at scale. The aerospace industry has not proposed a workforce expansion plan to support that cadence.
