SBI Holdings has rebranded SBI Security Solutions to SBI Digital Practice, effective June 22, to expand institutional blockchain infrastructure on the Canton Network, according to an announcement on July 28.

The renamed subsidiary will develop applications, compliance systems, and cross-border transaction infrastructure on Canton, a blockchain network backed by major financial institutions. SBI Digital Asset Holdings, a separate SBI entity, already serves as a founding super validator on the network, giving it validation rights and governance participation.

SBI Holdings is among Japan's largest financial services conglomerates, with divisions in banking, securities, and digital assets. The rebranding consolidates what were previously separate business units focused on blockchain infrastructure into a single subsidiary tasked with accelerating institutional adoption on Canton.

Canton is a permissioned blockchain designed for financial institutions, backed by a consortium that includes JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, and others. The network launched in 2023 with emphasis on tokenization, settlement, and interoperability between institutional systems. SBI's role as a super validator grants it validation authority and seats on network governance.

SBI Digital Practice will offer implementation support and regulatory compliance assistance to institutions building on Canton. The subsidiary's formation complements SBI's existing operations around Ripple and the XRP Ledger, where SBI Ripple Asia continues developing payment and tokenization services. The company said the two units operate in separate areas: Canton focuses on broad institutional infrastructure, while XRP Ledger services remain centered on Ripple's payment and settlement technology.

SBI has increased blockchain activity across multiple networks since 2023. The digital asset division expanded its validator role on Lido and other networks while maintaining its position in the XRP ecosystem. The Canton rebranding represents a formal organizational commitment to a different institutional blockchain stack.

The move follows other major financial groups adding validation or operational capacity on Canton. SBI's validator status and subsidiary infrastructure give it direct revenue and governance participation on the network.
