Generalist, a robotics startup, reached a $3 billion post-money valuation after closing a $200 million funding extension led by 8VC in August, according to regulatory filings cited by TechCrunch.
The round represents a $1 billion increase from the company's $2 billion valuation in June. Combined with a Series B completed earlier in the summer, Generalist has now raised roughly $600 million across its most recent funding cycle. Venture capital has continued to flow into robotics and AI companies building hardware systems at scale through 2024 and into 2025.
8VC led the extension round, the filing shows. The firm has been active in robotics and autonomous systems investments over the past two years. Generalist has not disclosed its core business operations or technology in detail, though the company name indicates a focus on generalist robotic systems rather than task-specific machines.
The $3 billion valuation places Generalist among a small cohort of privately held robotics companies valued in the multi-billion range. Boston Dynamics, owned by Hyundai, was valued at $1 billion when its stake changed hands in 2023. Figure AI, which is building humanoid robots for manufacturing, raised funding at a $2 billion valuation in February 2024.

Robotics companies have drawn significant institutional capital in 2024 and 2025 as investors bet on automation across logistics, manufacturing and service sectors. Advances in large language models and computer vision have enabled robots to respond to natural language commands and interpret visual scenes.
