Lighter, a perpetuals exchange, announced an expansion of its Chainlink integration to more than 100 additional markets, bringing its total coverage to 125 markets. The new markets span US and Asian equities, major crypto assets, foreign exchange pairs, and commodities.

Lighter has accumulated $1.7 trillion in trading volume to date. The integration now runs across Lighter's Ethereum Layer 2 and its deployment on Robinhood Chain, where the exchange powers perpetuals trading inside the Robinhood Wallet.

Chainlink's price feeds provide on-chain data for derivatives platforms to execute trades and settle positions. Perpetuals exchanges use price oracles to determine liquidation levels, mark prices, and funding rates. The ability to reference multiple asset classes from a single data provider reduces complexity for venues building multi-asset platforms.

Lighter has operated since 2023 and is backed by Polychain Capital and other institutional investors. The exchange initially launched on Ethereum's Arbitrum rollup before expanding to Robinhood's blockchain, which itself launched in 2024 as a Layer 2 for consumer trading. Robinhood has positioned the chain as a venue where its 24 million account holders can access onchain perpetuals without leaving the Robinhood Wallet interface.

Chainlink dominates the oracle market by transaction volume. Aave, MakerDAO, Lido, and Uniswap all reference Chainlink feeds for core operations. Other perpetuals venues including dYdX and Vertex Protocol also rely on Chainlink data. Lighter's expansion to 125 markets more than quadruples its initial 25-market baseline, a 400 percent increase in coverage.

The perpetuals sector has reached an estimated $6 trillion in annual notional volume across centralized and decentralized venues. Robinhood's entry into the space through its chain deployment places settlement onto blockchain infrastructure alongside its existing centralized trading operations. Lighter's presence on both an Ethereum rollup and Robinhood's chain positions it across two separate liquidity pools, splitting its user base but diversifying its platform risk.

The metric that decides whether Lighter's multi-venue strategy succeeds is whether it reaches meaningful daily active users on Robinhood Chain by end of 2025.
