KKR is acquiring A1 Garage Door Service in a transaction valued at approximately $2 billion, according to persons familiar with the matter.
The deal marks KKR's entry into residential garage door repair and installation, a fragmented market dominated by regional operators. A1 Garage Door Service operates across multiple states and generates revenue through emergency repairs, maintenance contracts, and new installations for residential customers.
KKR, the New York-based private equity firm with roughly $550 billion in assets under management, has in recent years focused on acquiring mid-market service businesses and consolidating fragmented sectors. The firm has previously backed companies in HVAC, plumbing, electrical work, and other home services where scale and operational efficiency can improve margins and customer retention.

A1 Garage Door Service's appeal to a buyer lies in recurring revenue from maintenance agreements and the business model's relative resistance to economic cycles, given that garage door repairs are often necessities rather than discretionary. The company also benefits from network effects in multi-unit residential and commercial buildings.
The transaction is not yet publicly announced by either party. Terms regarding debt financing, equity check-size from KKR's funds, or the seller's timeline were not disclosed. The deal is expected to close subject to customary conditions, according to the sources.
