Coinbase has begun offering 24/5 trading for nearly 4,000 US equities to users in the United Kingdom, with no commission fees on trades, according to an announcement by the exchange on August 6.
The move expands Coinbase's regulated offering in the UK beyond cryptocurrency. The exchange operates under Financial Conduct Authority authorization to provide traditional investments alongside digital assets, a regulatory pathway it secured in July 2026. The 24/5 trading window, five business days per week rather than the standard stock market's 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET close, allows UK users to trade US-listed equities outside traditional market hours.
Coinbase has worked to build a equities trading business separate from its core crypto operations. In May 2026, the exchange began offering commission-free US stock trading to users in select jurisdictions. The UK launch applies the same model, removing per-trade fees that remain standard at traditional brokers and other crypto platforms experimenting with equities integration.
The FCA's approval of Coinbase as an investment firm in July cleared the exchange to offer shares, bonds, exchange-traded funds and other regulated products to UK retail and institutional clients. Coinbase said the July authorization enabled a unified trading interface where users could manage both crypto and traditional assets from a single account.

Kraken began offering traditional asset trading in certain jurisdictions in 2025. Several centralized exchanges have pursued or obtained payment service provider licenses, though most remain focused on digital assets as their primary offering.
The stock count of nearly 4,000 US equities covers the bulk of listed companies, though the exact composition and any sectoral restrictions Coinbase may have imposed are not disclosed. Coinbase did not specify initial user eligibility criteria beyond UK residency or announce volume or pricing data.
The number of crypto-native platforms now licensed to offer equities in major jurisdictions has grown from zero in 2024 to at least three across the US, UK and EU by mid-2026. Coinbase's UK equities trading could generate material trading volume relative to its crypto business, testing whether centralized exchanges can compete with traditional brokers on assets neither party invented.
