Coinbase plans to increase its Singapore headcount to 200 from 150 by the end of 2026, focusing on engineering, customer service, institutional sales, and relationship management roles, according to an announcement cited by regional outlets.

The expansion comes as the exchange operates in one of Asia's most developed crypto regulatory environments. Singapore's Monetary Authority has granted Coinbase a Markets Conduct Licence, clearing the company to offer spot trading and custody services to both retail and institutional clients. The city-state has positioned itself as a regional hub for crypto infrastructure and institutional adoption, with competitors including Kraken, which secured a Major Payment Institution licence from Singapore's regulator in 2022.

Coinbase country director Hassan Ahmed said the hiring drive is part of the company's commitment to the Singapore market. The roles span technical development, compliance, and direct client coverage, three areas that typically require local presence and deep knowledge of Asia's trading and settlement patterns.

The hiring plan aligns with Coinbase's broader Asia-Pacific strategy. In March 2024, the company had announced it would establish a regional hub in Singapore to serve institutional clients across the region. The headcount increase from 150 to 200 represents a 33 percent expansion of the current staff base in a single half-year period.

Singapore hosts over 400 crypto and blockchain companies as of early 2026, according to the Economic Development Board. Major exchanges and custodians maintain substantial engineering and sales operations there, citing lower regulatory friction than jurisdictions including Hong Kong and Australia. Coinbase is adding 50 staff in a market where other major exchanges have reduced regional headcount in response to compliance costs elsewhere.

The number that decides whether this represents sustained regional commitment is whether Coinbase maintains the 200-person headcount through 2027 without a consolidation round.
