BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust moved 7,320 BTC (roughly $478.5 million) through Coinbase Prime this week, with a single-day withdrawal of 1,840 BTC on Friday, according to on-chain data.

The transfers are tied to ETF share creation and redemption. When investors buy or sell shares of IBIT, the fund adjusts its Bitcoin holdings through institutional custodians like Coinbase Prime. The scale of weekly movement, 7,320 BTC, represents the mechanical settlement of investor flows into and out of the product.

BlackRock's IBIT has become the largest Bitcoin ETF by assets under management since its January 2024 launch. The fund has drawn consistent inflows from institutional investors seeking exposure to Bitcoin through a regulated, SEC-approved wrapper. Custody transfers through Coinbase Prime and other institutional platforms execute those share creations and redemptions at scale.

On-chain monitoring platforms track these movements because large institutional Bitcoin flows affect market liquidity and price discovery. A weekly movement of $478.5 million in Bitcoin is material relative to daily spot trading volumes, though the transfers themselves are non-discretionary settlement activity rather than directional portfolio bets.

Coinbase Prime, a custody and trading platform for institutional clients, has processed billions of dollars in digital asset transfers since its 2018 launch. BlackRock, Grayscale, Fidelity and other major Bitcoin ETF issuers use institutional custodians to segregate and secure Bitcoin held on behalf of shareholders.

The verification of these figures against multiple on-chain data sources confirms the movement occurred, though the initial framing as new accumulation misstated the nature of the transfers. Custody plumbing, moving Bitcoin between wallets to settle investor orders, differs from portfolio allocation decisions by the fund manager.

ETF flows and custody movements are among the most closely watched metrics for institutional Bitcoin adoption, because they reveal the pace at which capital is entering or leaving regulated products. A weekly custody movement of this size is routine for IBIT given its asset base, but the direction and consistency of flows remain significant for understanding institutional demand.
