XRP Ledger has processed over 1 million transactions involving AI agents, according to RippleX engineering leadership. The company expects the network to reach 100 million such transactions within the coming years as autonomous agent payment infrastructure matures.

RippleX head of engineering Ayo Akinyele made the forecast in a July 21 announcement. The milestone marks a test of whether blockchains can absorb machine-to-machine payment flows at scale. Agent transactions on XRP Ledger have grown steadily as developers deploy autonomous systems that execute payments without human intermediation.

XRP Ledger, the blockchain operated by the XRP Ledger Foundation and backed by Ripple, has positioned itself as infrastructure for agent spending. The network processes transactions in an average of 3-4 seconds and settles in finality within roughly the same window. Ripple, the payments firm, has separately invested in agent-focused development through its venture arm and open-source grants.

Agentic transaction volumes remain microscopic relative to traditional payment rails. A single major card network like Visa processes hundreds of millions of transactions daily. But the category has drawn attention from blockchain projects betting that autonomous systems will become routine payment participants within five years.

Other blockchains have reported agent transaction activity without publishing aggregate volumes. Solana and Ethereum have hosted agent frameworks, though neither network has announced milestone metrics for autonomous transaction flows.

Akinyele's projection of 100 million transactions would represent a 100-fold increase from the current 1 million baseline. Reaching that figure would require sustained adoption among agent developers and deployment of systems capable of transacting at volumes far above current market activity.

The timeline to 100 million transactions will depend on whether autonomous payment use cases emerge at meaningful scale and whether developers choose XRP Ledger as their execution layer over competing platforms.
