Sui Network and Alibaba Cloud announced a partnership to integrate cloud services into Sui Agent Payments, enabling per-call stablecoin settlement on the Sui blockchain. The integration was unveiled live at Sui Basecamp on October 7.

Sui Agent Payments is a framework that allows users to set spending budgets while autonomous agents handle transactions on their behalf. The Alibaba Cloud integration expands the types of services agents can execute within that budget model, with each service call settled in stablecoins on Sui rather than in traditional payment rails.

The mechanism works by charging for cloud compute calls as discrete transactions. A user sets a budget denominated in stablecoins; the agent then executes Alibaba Cloud operations and records each call as a settlement event on Sui. This model departs from Alibaba Cloud's standard subscription or pay-as-you-go billing, instead tying cloud usage directly to blockchain transactions.

Sui Agent Payments itself launched in June 2026 as a framework for delegated transaction execution. The system was designed to reduce friction in crypto commerce by letting agents transact within predefined limits, similar to how a credit card holds a budget cap. Integration with a major cloud provider extends that principle beyond blockchain-native operations into mainstream infrastructure services.

Alibaba Cloud, part of Alibaba Group, operates one of the world's largest public cloud platforms by revenue and data center footprint. The partnership marks one of the first instances of a top-tier cloud provider integrating billing directly into a blockchain payment layer.

Neither party disclosed transaction volumes, settlement times, or a go-live date for production deployment. The companies did not specify which Alibaba Cloud services, compute, storage, networking, or others, would be available through the integration.

Competitor chains have pursued partnerships with established cloud providers to reduce infrastructure barriers for decentralized applications. Sui's approach differs by tying cloud costs to on-chain stablecoin settlement, converting cloud consumption into a blockchain transaction primitive.

Alibaba Cloud's participation brings a major incumbent infrastructure player into a blockchain payment experiment, a departure from the typical pattern in which startups and crypto-native firms test agent-based or automated settlement systems. If successful, the model could create demand for stablecoin liquidity on Sui sufficient to support cloud-scale transaction volumes. The document to watch is any public metrics on transaction volume or settlement value through the integration, which would demonstrate whether the partnership has moved beyond announcement into measurable adoption.
