Robinhood is rolling out AI-powered crypto trading via dedicated agentic accounts, allowing eligible users to connect AI agents to execute trades using only user-deposited funds.

The feature, announced on X, uses MCP server technology to enable automated trading. Users can connect AI agents to their agentic accounts and set them to trade crypto. The accounts are segregated and operate only with capital the user supplies.

Robinhood has been building toward agentic capabilities over the past year. Major platforms are exploring how to let users deploy autonomous trading agents across asset classes. Robinhood's agentic accounts require explicit user setup and operate under the same compliance framework as manual trading on the platform.

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard developed by Anthropic for connecting AI agents to external systems and data sources. The protocol allows large language models to interact with third-party applications and APIs. Robinhood's use of MCP lets users route AI agents directly into the broker's trading infrastructure without custom integrations.

The rollout is limited to eligible users, a constraint Robinhood has not yet defined publicly. Eligibility criteria typically account for account age, trading history, or jurisdictional factors. The company has not announced plans to expand access or timelines for broader availability.

AI agent trading for retail users remains nascent. Most platforms offering similar features are early-stage or targeting professional traders. Robinhood adopted MCP and agentic accounts on a mass-market brokerage platform, putting it among the first major U.S. brokers shipping agent-native trading infrastructure to its user base. The feature trades on Robinhood's existing 23 million funded accounts and existing crypto trading volume, giving it distribution at scale compared to specialized agent trading platforms.

The number to track is how many Robinhood users activate agentic accounts and what percentage of the platform's crypto trading volume they represent within the first three months.
