PermawebOS, the operating system for Arweave's permaweb, has released a beta version that enables users to sign transactions and manage assets on Ethereum addresses, according to a post on X from ao, the core development entity.
The update allows holders of AR, the native token of the Arweave storage network, and AO, Arweave's compute layer token, to store and transact with these assets while controlling them through Ethereum keys. Bazar, Arweave's decentralized marketplace application, has also integrated Ethereum signing capability, enabling users to manage assets held on ETH addresses from within that interface.
Arweave operates as a permanent data storage protocol where nodes store data indefinitely in exchange for AR token rewards. The network has expanded beyond storage into computation through AO, a separate token that powers a parallel processing layer. Users of both systems have historically needed separate wallet infrastructure to interact with each ecosystem.
The integration with Ethereum signing represents a shift in how users can organize their holdings. Instead of maintaining separate wallets keyed to Arweave addresses, users can now hold AR and AO tokens on Ethereum addresses they already control, reducing wallet fragmentation across protocols. Mainnet 1.0 assets, according to the announcement, are also accessible through this unified approach.

The release marks PermawebOS as a gateway application rather than a network-specific wallet. By supporting multiple key types, the system allows users to manage cross-protocol portfolios without exporting private keys or juggling separate signing devices.
Bazar's addition of ETH signing extends this capability to marketplace transactions. Users transacting on the permaweb's primary commerce application no longer need to switch between Ethereum and Arweave wallet contexts to complete purchases or sales of digital goods.
The beta status indicates the feature remains in testing. No timeline for a production release or mandatory migration has been announced. Whether widespread adoption of Ethereum-keyed holdings on Arweave assets will expand the protocol's user base depends partly on how many Ethereum-native users adopt the PermawebOS wallet as their primary interface for AR and AO management.
The document to watch is the full PermawebOS release notes, which will clarify which features remain experimental and when the Ethereum signing capability moves from beta to mainnet.
