Oracle's proposed $165 billion data center project in New Mexico faces a six-month delay after the natural gas pipeline meant to power it slipped its in-service date. Energy Transfer subsidiary Transwestern Pipeline pushed the expected operational launch of its Green Chile Project from August 15 to February 1, 2027, according to a regulatory filing Friday.

The postponement jeopardizes the schedule for Oracle's Project Jupiter, a data center development in Doña Ana County near the U.S.-Mexico border. Oracle has positioned the facility as a cornerstone infrastructure investment in the region, but the project now depends on whether Transwestern can meet the revised February target. The delay marks a rare instance of digital infrastructure scaling plans hinging on traditional energy supply rather than cloud capacity or regulatory approval.

Transwestern operates 11,600 miles of interstate natural gas pipelines across nine states. The Green Chile Project was designed to deliver additional pipeline capacity to support new industrial load in southern New Mexico, a region with limited existing gas infrastructure. The six-month slip from mid-August 2026 to early February 2027 stems from construction challenges typical to major pipeline work, though Transwestern did not detail specific obstacles in its filing.

Oracle has moved aggressively into data center ownership and operation as part of a broader pivot toward infrastructure and cloud services. The company committed the $165 billion to Project Jupiter as a cornerstone of its expansion strategy in the region, betting on demand from artificial intelligence workloads and enterprise computing. Data center development timelines typically span multiple years and depend on electricity supply, water access, labor availability, and interconnection rights, but rarely on a single pipeline's completion date.
