Ondo Perps has recorded $6 billion in cumulative trading volume and $75 million in open interest, according to an announcement on X, placing the platform fourth among real-world asset perps exchanges.

The milestone positions Ondo ahead of competitors Aster and Lighter Protocol in the RWA perps category. The platform's open interest figure, the total value of all open positions at a given moment, reflects active trader participation and capital committed to the exchange.

Ondo Finance launched its perpetual futures trading platform in 2024 as part of a broader effort to bring tokenized real-world assets into decentralized derivatives trading. RWA perps platforms allow traders to take positions on assets backed by physical collateral or institutional credit, distinguishing them from synthetic or spot-only trading venues.

The $75 million open interest places Ondo among nascent but active competitors in the RWA derivatives space. For context, Hyperliquid, the largest decentralized perps platform overall, has sustained open interest above $1 billion regularly since 2024, though it operates across all asset types rather than focusing exclusively on RWA-backed instruments.

Cumulative volume of $6 billion measured across the platform's trading history does not directly show daily or monthly activity; the metric bundles all trades executed since launch. Open interest, by contrast, is a real-time measure of capital at stake and often moves with exchange health and trader confidence.

Ondo's ranking in the RWA perps category reflects a narrower market segment than traditional perps platforms. The RWA derivatives space remains in early adoption, with most volume concentrated in major DeFi and cryptocurrency perps exchanges. Ondo's focus on tokenized real assets, including short-duration US Treasuries and emerging market bonds, targets institutional and sophisticated retail traders seeking yield-bearing collateral in derivative trading.

The timing coincides with broader institutional interest in on-chain RWA infrastructure. Several venture-backed RWA platforms have expanded into derivatives this year, treating perps as a revenue stream and liquidity driver for their underlying asset offerings. Ondo's achievement of fourth-place ranking occurred within a compressed timeframe relative to earlier movers in decentralized derivatives.
