Ondo has launched USDY, its yield-bearing stablecoin, on BNB Chain with immediate support for minting and redemption across PancakeSwap, 1inch, and LayerZero, according to an announcement posted by the company on August 4.
USDY allows holders to earn yield on dollar-denominated deposits through exposure to short-duration U.S. Treasury instruments and other onchain fixed-income strategies. The token had launched on Ethereum and Arbitrum in prior months. BNB Chain's inclusion expands access to one of the world's largest blockchain ecosystems, where transaction costs and confirmation times differ substantially from Ethereum mainnet.

Ondo's yield-bearing stablecoin model competes directly with MakerDAO's sDAI and other Treasury-backed tokens that attempt to deliver Treasury yields without custody friction. USDY holders receive daily rebasing rewards as underlying collateral earns yield, with the rebasing mechanism built into the token itself rather than requiring a separate claim process.

The integrations announced span two decentralized exchanges and LayerZero's omnichain messaging protocol. PancakeSwap is BNB Chain's largest DEX by volume. 1inch routes liquidity across multiple on-chain venues. LayerZero enables cross-chain transfers without centralized intermediaries, allowing USDY to move between BNB Chain and other supported networks.
Ondo has raised $93 million across multiple rounds according to prior disclosures. The firm is backed by investors including Founders Fund and Coinbase Ventures. Ondo operates as a regulated on-chain credit platform under the supervision of the Bahamas Financial Services Regulator.
Yield-bearing stablecoin adoption has grown as institutional investors seek onchain Treasury exposure without holding raw bonds directly. However, these products face ongoing questions about regulatory status, as the SEC has not established clear guidance on whether yield-bearing stablecoins constitute investment contracts or securities.
Ondo's announcement of USDY availability on BNB Chain follows a pattern of Treasury-backed tokens expanding across multiple chains within months of initial deployment. The timeline from Ethereum launch to multi-chain presence mirrors adoption patterns for other asset-backed onchain tokens. The next test for Ondo's ecosystem expansion is whether BNB Chain adoption drives measurable volumes comparable to liquidity on Ethereum and Arbitrum.
