The transaction count is a measure of throughput over time rather than current network capacity. Internet Computer's cumulative volume is the sum of every transaction the network has settled since genesis; Solana's 117.6 billion figure is similarly historical. Both networks compete on transaction finality and cost, but cumulative transaction counts do not directly measure current performance or validator security.

Internet Computer, built by the Dfinity Foundation, is a blockchain designed to host decentralized applications and smart contracts. The network uses a Byzantine Fault Tolerant consensus mechanism and chain key cryptography to manage state. Solana, by contrast, uses Proof of History for ordering and Proof of Stake for validation. Both claim sub-second finality, though the architectures differ substantially.

Cumulative transaction volume measures years of on-chain activity. Solana, launched in March 2020, has been live for over four years. Internet Computer went live in May 2021, giving it roughly three years of operational history at equivalent growth rates. Both metrics come from live on-chain data and are verifiable in real time. Internet Computer's transaction throughput has historically exceeded Solana's by a 2.5x margin. The question for users and developers is whether historical transaction volume correlates with current network reliability, cost, or adoption.
