Flowdesk Omega FZE, the Dubai-based unit of cryptocurrency trading firm Flowdesk, has received a full broker-dealer license from the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority, according to the announcement. The license was granted on August 10, 2026.

The broker-dealer designation permits Flowdesk to execute trades on behalf of clients and hold client assets in Dubai. Fewer than a dozen firms have obtained this license since VARA began issuing full broker-dealer permits in 2023. The Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority is the independent regulator for crypto businesses operating in the Dubai International Financial Centre, a distinct legal jurisdiction within the emirate.

Flowdesk operates as a market maker and liquidity provider in digital assets, serving institutional clients across trading, settlement, and prime brokerage services. The firm's main operations are in London, but the Dubai license extends its regulated footprint into the Gulf region at a time when institutional adoption of crypto trading in the Middle East is accelerating.

VARA's broker-dealer classification is the highest license tier the regulator offers and requires operators to meet strict capital adequacy, operational resilience, and client protection standards. The license permits both spot and derivatives trading, subject to VARA's rulebook.

Flowdesk joins firms like Gemini and Kraken, which also hold full trading licenses in Dubai, though under VARA's framework the regulatory regime differs substantially from securities regimes in the United States and Europe. Dubai's regulatory approach permits crypto-to-crypto trading and derivatives without the same restrictions that apply in traditional financial centres.

Flowdesk's Dubai unit was established in 2024 and had previously held a VARA restricted license before upgrading to full broker-dealer status. The upgrade follows the firm's intention to expand institutional crypto trading services in the Gulf, a region where oil-backed sovereign wealth funds and family offices have been allocating capital to digital assets.

Flowdesk now holds regulatory licenses in at least four jurisdictions. The Dubai license is the first full broker-dealer permit granted by VARA to a London-headquartered trading firm. The regulator is expected to release its next quarterly licensing report in Q4, which will publicly disclose all current full license holders.
