EtherFi is launching a USD stablecoin with Ethena managing reserves, minting, redemptions and compliance end-to-end. The move follows EtherFi accumulating over $300 million in stablecoin deposits across its platform.

Ethena is providing its whitelabel infrastructure to power the stablecoin, allowing EtherFi to retain control of the product while outsourcing the operational and regulatory backbone. The arrangement lets EtherFi earn from idle deposit balances alongside its existing product revenue.

EtherFi scaled its Cash card product to $800 million in cumulative spend and approximately 70,000 active cards since launch in 2024. The stablecoin launch extends EtherFi's presence in the neobank space, where the company operates a liquid restaking platform alongside its consumer finance products.

Ethena's whitelabel offering allows platforms to own the entire stack rather than rely on third-party stablecoin providers. The model lets platforms capture deposit economics directly while transferring regulatory and operational risk to a specialized infrastructure partner. Ethena itself operates USDe, a delta-neutral stablecoin that has grown to over $3 billion in total value locked.

The $300 million in deposits EtherFi holds gives the stablecoin a populated initial balance sheet. Stablecoin launches by fintech platforms typically depend on either significant treasury backing or early user adoption to achieve utility; EtherFi's existing customer base of card holders provides a ready user pool for redemptions and circulation.

Ethena's whitelabel partnerships now include at least one other major consumer platform. The infrastructure play sidesteps the regulatory uncertainty around stablecoin issuance itself by positioning Ethena as the technical and compliance operator while EtherFi retains the customer relationship.

EtherFi chose to launch its own stablecoin rather than integrate an existing one. The $300 million in existing deposits represents roughly 10 percent of the total value locked across all major fintech-issued stablecoins, giving EtherFi material scale from day one. If EtherFi's stablecoin circulation grows at a rate comparable to its Cash card adoption, the number to watch is whether it reaches $500 million in total issuance within the next six months.
