Ethena, the stablecoin issuer behind USDe, launched Ethena Pay, a neobank built on Avalanche that allows users to save, send and spend USDe globally from a mobile app, according to an announcement on the Avalanche blog.

The neobank operates entirely on-chain, with Avalanche providing the underlying infrastructure. Users can transfer and spend USDe directly without intermediaries, targeting the more than 5 billion adults globally who already use financial accounts.

Ethena has built substantial integrations across institutional and retail finance channels. USDe serves as the primary collateral for Robinhood's crypto earn product and is available on BlackRock's Aladdin risk management platform, which is used by more than 1,000 organizations globally. The stablecoin has also achieved listing across more than 100 venues and protocols on 20-plus blockchain networks.

Avalanche, which processes payments and settlement on the Ethena Pay network, competes with Ethereum, Solana and other blockchains for stablecoin and fintech application deployment. The chain has positioned itself as a high-speed settlement layer for traditional finance use cases, following earlier wins hosting institutional custody solutions and tokenized asset platforms.

Ethena Pay is one of the first consumer-facing neobank launches built as a single-chain application on Avalanche. The move follows a broader trend of stablecoin operators expanding beyond trading and lending venues into consumer spending and payments products.

Avalanche's use of Ethena Pay as an anchor application for consumer banking tests whether the chain can retain users through retail-facing products rather than infrastructure depth alone. The neobank's success will partly depend on regulatory clearance and consumer adoption in target markets, neither of which Ethena has detailed publicly.

Ethena Pay's exclusivity to Avalanche for now contrasts with USDe's presence across 20-plus networks, where the stablecoin competes with USDC, USDT and other major stablecoins. If Ethena Pay gains significant user deposits or transaction volume, single-chain neobanks can compete with multi-chain platforms; if adoption stalls, consumers may prefer cross-chain flexibility over Avalanche-exclusive payments infrastructure.
