Discovery Loop, the AI startup founded by former Google chief scientist Jeff Dean, is raising at a valuation of around $50 billion, according to reporting from Business Insider. The valuation represents a five-fold increase from a $10 billion valuation the company sought in late August, just weeks earlier.

The company automates scientific and engineering discovery by running thousands of experiments in parallel. Google is a founding investor and cloud partner. Radical Ventures and Khosla Ventures led the initial funding, with Lightspeed, Kleiner Perkins and Doerr Capital also participating. Vinod Khosla has compared the opportunity to his early investment in OpenAI, saying the team could redefine how research in science and engineering is done.

Discovery Loop's founding team draws from Google and DeepMind's research ranks. Jeff Dean served as Google's chief scientist. Sanjay Ghemawat architected Google's distributed computing systems. Quoc Le was a founding member of Google Brain. Oriol Vinyals led sequence modeling and reinforcement learning research at DeepMind.

Discovery Loop announced its founding in August and moved to a Series A round within weeks. Terms remain under discussion and the company has not guaranteed it will complete the $50 billion round at the stated valuation.

The five-week jump from $10 billion to $50 billion values Discovery Loop at a multiple 2.5 times higher than comparable AI infrastructure startups raised at in 2025. Google's participation as both investor and cloud provider creates a structural incentive to see the company succeed in its core mission, though the arrangement also ties Discovery Loop's go-to-market strategy to Google's infrastructure roadmap.

The document to watch is whether Discovery Loop files any SEC filing or announcement confirming the $50 billion valuation round has closed by the end of 2026.
