CME's share of XRP futures open interest surged from 10 percent to 17 percent over two weeks ending August 31, while XRP itself rallied nearly 40 percent, according to market data. The jump occurred as total XRP futures open interest across all venues fell 16 percent in the same period, with CME's open interest growing 36 percent during the two-week window.

CME's XRP futures open interest grew 36 percent during the two-week window, a sharp acceleration in a venue that has historically been secondary to decentralized and offshore futures markets for the asset. CME's historical share of XRP futures open interest has rarely exceeded single digits.

CME launched XRP futures in May 2023 and has since built a regulated, U.S.-domiciled settlement venue for the asset. The exchange does not publish a public dashboard for XRP open interest, but aggregate derivatives data platforms track CME positions against peer venues including Binance, OKX, and other centralized exchanges. The broader XRP futures market is dominated by Asian and offshore platforms.

XRP's 40 percent rally in late August coincided with general market relief from risk positioning shifts across crypto. Total XRP open interest across all venues stood near $1.2 billion before the decline. Traders moved out of positions on less-regulated venues into settled contracts on regulated U.S. exchanges during this period.

CME does not break out asset-specific data in public filings. The figures come from third-party aggregators tracking on-chain and exchange API data for futures positions. CME's broader crypto derivatives business has grown steadily since 2020, when the exchange began offering Bitcoin and Ether futures; XRP contracts remain a smaller part of its crypto suite.

CME's share of total XRP futures open interest has roughly doubled in two weeks, moving from 10 to 17 percent. If the flow continues, CME could approach parity with some Asian venues on a per-contract basis within months, though absolute volumes on Binance and OKX remain multiples higher.

The metric to watch is whether CME's XRP open interest share stabilizes above 15 percent or reverts toward historical single-digit levels once market volatility subsides.
