Brookfield Renewable has agreed to issue C$750 million in green bonds to fund renewable energy investments and repay related debt, according to an announcement dated August 20, 2026.

The offering comprises two tranches: C$400 million in Series 21 Notes carrying a coupon of 4.949 percent and due in 2036, plus C$350 million in Series 22 Notes at 4.256 percent due in 2031. The company expects closing on August 24, 2026. Brookfield Renewable intends to use proceeds under its 2024 Green Financing Framework, which covers renewable energy project development, acquisition and construction, as well as repayment of existing indebtedness incurred for those purposes.

Brookfield Renewable, the renewable energy platform of Brookfield Asset Management, operates wind, solar, hydroelectric and energy storage assets across North America, South America, Europe and Asia. The company has issued green bonds since at least 2021 to finance its portfolio expansion and debt refinancing.

Green bonds have become a common financing tool for renewable energy operators seeking capital markets funding. The market has grown substantially over the past five years as institutional investors have increased allocations to sustainable debt instruments. Brookfield Renewable's two-tranche structure allows it to manage its maturity profile across shorter and longer time horizons while locking in fixed rates in the current interest rate environment.

The coupon spread between the two series is 69 basis points; the 2036 maturity carries the higher rate. Both rates sit above the Bank of Canada's current policy rate, pricing in credit spreads typical for investment-grade renewable energy issuers.

Brookfield Renewable has maintained investment-grade credit ratings from major agencies, a status that typically requires regular access to capital markets. Interest rates remained higher through 2026 as central banks sustained policy rates from the prior year.

The proceeds will support Brookfield Renewable's ongoing development pipeline, which spans multiple geographies and technology types. If closing occurs as scheduled on August 24, the company will have deployed capital within four days of announcement, a standard timeline for green bond offerings in this sector.
