Bitdeer has acquired 200 acres in Milam County, Texas adjacent to its existing Rockdale facility for approximately $100 million in cash, according to the company's announcement. The purchase, announced September 1, positions the operator to expand capacity at a site already holding 563 megawatts of power generation.

Bitdeer operates the Rockdale complex as one of its largest Bitcoin mining and infrastructure facilities. The site sits within the ERCOT grid in central Texas, where power costs have remained competitive for high-intensity computational workloads. The company's stated plan is to develop the newly acquired acreage to support what it calls AI and HPC infrastructure, broadening the site's use beyond mining operations into data center services.

Bitcoin mining operators have shifted focus toward diversified revenue streams beyond coin production. Marathon Digital, Riot Platforms, and Hut 8 have invested in high-performance computing capacity and AI inference workloads to stabilize returns during periods of volatile hash price. Rockdale itself has emerged as a hub for this transition, with multiple operators expanding footprints there in the past two years.

Texas has attracted concentrated computational infrastructure investment due to its grid capacity, deregulation of wholesale power markets, and relatively flat land available for large-scale facility builds. Bitdeer's parent company, Terawulf, has also made substantial Texas investments. The 200-acre parcel at standard density buildouts could support 400 to 600 additional megawatts of capacity depending on power delivery infrastructure and cooling design.

Bitdeer currently operates or is developing mining and infrastructure assets across North America, with Rockdale as its flagship domestic installation. The company has been in expansion mode since late 2024, when it began a substantial capex program to add capacity before the next Bitcoin halving cycle. The company now controls over 760 acres across multiple parcels within the Rockdale cluster, giving it consolidated control of one of North America's largest single mining and infrastructure complexes.

Bitdeer has deployed $100 million in a single parcel acquisition, a figure that matches the capital intensity of a complete new megawatt-scale facility in lower-cost regions.

The document to watch is Bitdeer's next quarterly earnings report, where management will detail timelines for converting the 200 acres into operational capacity and provide updated guidance on total megawatts under development across all sites.
