Bitcoin.com has partnered with Universal to integrate USDU, a USD stablecoin registered with the Central Bank of the UAE, into its self-custodial wallet, according to the announcement. The integration will make the stablecoin available to millions of Bitcoin.com Wallet users across the network.

USDP is the first UAE-domiciled stablecoin to receive formal registration from the Central Bank of the UAE, a regulator that has been gradually constructing licensing frameworks for digital asset firms since 2020. The partnership marks the first major wallet integration for USDU since its CBUAE approval, positioning the stablecoin among competitors like USDC and USDT that already operate widely across custodial and self-custodial platforms.

Bitcoin.com Wallet serves as a non-custodial mobile application where users control their own private keys. The firm said the USDU integration will allow wallet holders to transact in a fiat-pegged asset without relying on a third party to hold their funds. Bitcoin.com does not publish active user counts, though it has marketed the wallet to millions of cryptocurrency holders globally.

Universal, the stablecoin issuer, operates under CBUAE guidelines that require reserves to be held in the UAE or with the central bank itself. The registration framework, adopted in 2023, permits stablecoin issuers to operate within the UAE's jurisdiction while serving cross-border users.

Self-custodial wallet integrations have become a competitive advantage for stablecoin issuers seeking distribution beyond centralized exchange and trading platforms. USDC and USDT both operate across dozens of non-custodial wallets and decentralized finance applications. The USDU integration into Bitcoin.com Wallet reduces friction for users seeking UAE-regulated dollar exposure without holding their assets on an exchange.

Bitcoin.com's backing gives USDU distribution to a wallet with an established user base, though neither party disclosed the size of that base in the announcement. The partnership represents one of the first deployments of a CBUAE-registered stablecoin into a major self-custodial interface.

The number to watch is whether USDU's integration into Bitcoin.com Wallet, the first major self-custodial distribution outside of exchange platforms, produces measurable trading volume or reserve growth within the next quarterly report from Universal.
