The wallet integrates into Barça Mobile's existing mobile app, enabling payments and digital asset management for the club's global customer base.
Barça Mobile operates as a mobile virtual network operator under New Era Visionary Group and serves FC Barcelona's fan and customer ecosystem. The wallet deployment extends the club's digital services beyond traditional telecom offerings into payments infrastructure. Wirex provides payment processing capabilities while Crossmint handles blockchain integration and custody services on Stellar.
FC Barcelona has expanded its commercial technology partnerships in recent years, adding digital and blockchain services to club operations. Stellar, the blockchain network backing the wallet, has processed more than 1 billion transactions since its 2014 launch and counts financial institutions and payment providers among its users. The network charges minimal fees for transactions and asset issuance, making it a low-cost option for services like mobile payments.
Barça Mobile's wallet sits alongside existing digital asset offerings in sports and entertainment. Other professional clubs and organizations have launched blockchain-based loyalty programs and fan engagement tools, though few have integrated wallets directly into telecom operator platforms. The move combines recurring mobile service relationships with cryptocurrency and stablecoin payment capabilities through an existing billing relationship rather than a standalone application.
The wallet deployment does not require Barcelona fans or customers to hold cryptocurrency to use the service; Wirex's offering typically supports both digital and traditional currency transactions. Barça Mobile's choice of Stellar over competing blockchain networks reflects the platform's cost structure and its existing partnerships with payment processors in sports and fintech sectors.
The partnership bundles three previously separate service layers, telecom, payments, and blockchain infrastructure, into a single mobile interface. Wirex has worked with sports properties and entertainment brands before; Crossmint specializes in making blockchain services accessible to non-technical users. Neither Wirex nor Crossmint disclosed transaction volumes, fee structures, or launch timelines for specific features in the announcement.
