Aptos has overtaken XRP Ledger in total stablecoin supply, climbing to eleventh place among all blockchain networks. As of August 31, Aptos held $1.13 billion in stablecoins against XRPL's $1.12 billion, according to on-chain data from DefiLlama. The move marks the first time Aptos has ranked ahead of XRPL on the metric.
The $10 million gap is the margin by which Layer 1 networks now compete for stablecoin adoption. Both chains trail major platforms like Ethereum, Tron, Polygon and Solana by orders of magnitude, but the ranking places both in competition for infrastructure mindshare among chains targeting institutional and high-volume payment flows.
Aptos, founded by former Meta blockchain researchers and launched in 2022, has focused on payment throughput and developer tooling for financial applications. The network has attracted multiple stablecoin issuers, including Circle with USDC and Wormhole-bridged alternatives. XRPL, operational since 2012, has served as a settlement layer for banks and payment providers, though its stablecoin ecosystem has grown more slowly than competing Layer 1 platforms.

Aptos has gained in developer activity and transaction volume over the past year as the network refined its Move programming language and finality guarantees. XRPL has maintained steady use in cross-border payment corridors but has not seen the same surge in decentralized finance or general-purpose development.
Aptos now sits between Arbitrum at $1.14 billion in stablecoin supply and Optimism at $1.09 billion, in a cluster of Layer 2 networks and alternative Layer 1s competing for the tenth through fifteenth positions globally. The top five networks, Ethereum, Tron, Polygon, Solana and Avalanche, each hold stablecoin supplies exceeding $5 billion.
Aptos entered the top twelve rankings for stablecoin supply less than a year ago. The number that decides whether this lead holds is total stablecoin supply on Aptos at the next major milestone; if it does not reach $1.25 billion by end of year, competitive pressure from XRPL and Optimism could reverse the ranking.
