Validator count is one of the primary measures of blockchain decentralization. More validators distribute consensus power across a larger set of independent operators. Algorand's validator base has grown from 1,545 validators the prior week, a marginal increase that shows node operator participation on the network. The network's validator set has expanded steadily since the protocol transitioned to public participation in 2021.

Algorand uses a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism where token holders can become validators by running a node and pledging ALGO as collateral.
