Algorand has processed over 500,000 post-quantum transactions on its mainnet, according to an announcement from the company. The figure includes both State Proofs and transactions from native post-quantum accounts, Algorand said.
Post-quantum cryptography uses algorithms resistant to attacks from quantum computers, a theoretical threat that has pushed blockchain networks to begin preparing migration paths. Algorand's implementation allows users to create accounts using Falcon-1024, a post-quantum signature scheme, and process transactions that would remain secure even if quantum computing advances faster than current projections.
State Proofs, a core component of Algorand's consensus mechanism, were upgraded to post-quantum resistance as part of the mainnet rollout. These cryptographic proofs allow light clients to verify blockchain history without downloading the entire ledger. Algorand aimed to secure State Proofs against quantum attacks by protecting the verification layer that nodes rely on for long-term security.
The 500,000-transaction milestone comes from live usage rather than a test environment. Algorand activated native post-quantum account support in version 5.0.0 of its software, released in early 2026. The deployment came as several blockchain networks began publishing quantum-readiness roadmaps, spurred partly by regulatory interest in long-term cryptographic durability and partly by the acceleration of quantum hardware development timelines.

Algorand did not disclose the total count of post-quantum accounts currently active on mainnet or the daily transaction volume flowing through them. The company has positioned post-quantum migration as voluntary for existing users, with classical accounts remaining functional in parallel.
No other layer-1 blockchain has reported processing post-quantum transactions at comparable scale on live mainnet. Bitcoin and Ethereum have published theoretical quantum-readiness proposals but have not activated post-quantum signing mechanisms on their mainnets, citing the absence of an immediate quantum threat and the technical burden of a network-wide migration.
Algorand's post-quantum transaction count doubled within the past four months according to internal tracking, a rate consistent with early-stage feature adoption rather than enterprise migration. The foundation has not released production usage data that would show whether adoption is driven by quantum-security advocates, protocol developers testing the feature, or commercial application builders integrating the accounts into production systems.
