Aftermath Finance launched Perpetuals V2, a rebuilt derivatives trading engine, on Sui mainnet on August 18 with two completed public audits and 15 markets live, according to a post by Sui Network.

The new engine represents a rebuild of Aftermath's perpetuals infrastructure rather than an incremental update. Certora and OtterSec conducted the two independent security audits, both made public before launch. The 15 live markets cover major trading pairs on Sui's ecosystem.

Aftermath Finance operates on Sui, a layer-1 blockchain built for high transaction throughput. The platform has offered perpetual futures contracts, bets on price movements with no expiration, since earlier in 2026. Perpetuals have emerged as a core venue for institutional crypto trading, with major platforms like dYdX, Hyperliquid and Jupiter all running their own derivatives engines across multiple blockchains.

Public audit reports before launch have become standard practice in decentralized finance after a series of smart contract exploits. Firms like Certora and OtterSec publish their findings to allow community review. Aftermath commissioned two independent audits before deploying the engine to mainnet.

Sui has positioned itself as a high-speed settlement layer for financial applications. The chain processes transactions at microsecond latency, a technical advantage for derivatives matching where order fill speed affects slippage and execution costs. Perpetuals engines that can confirm fills quickly relative to price movements give traders an edge in volatile markets.

Aftermath identified structural limitations in its original engine, possibly around order matching logic, liquidation mechanics, or collateral accounting, that warranted a ground-up redesign. Such rebuilds typically take months and require extensive testing before audit.

Aftermath faces competition from established perpetuals platforms operating across multiple chains and from newer Sui-native competitors building similar products. The timing and feature parity of Perpetuals V2 will determine whether the platform captures meaningful trading volume on Sui or remains a smaller regional venue. The number to watch is whether Aftermath's perpetuals notional open interest exceeds $50 million within 60 days of launch, a benchmark that would indicate institutional adoption is real rather than exploratory.
